Jason Momoa makes being a superhero look easy. The actor has played Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, since 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And now he’s well into filming his second solo film for the character, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
But while Momoa may make things look easy, it’s not the reality, at least according to his latest appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The actor revealed that he sustained a few injuries on set, which is all a part of being an “aging” superhero.
“I’m getting old, that’s what’s happening” the 42-year-old actor said with a playful sigh, before describing an eye injury he got filming the DC movie. “I gotta get surgery, I have a hernia, I got ribs out. I’m just getting beat up.”
Thankfully, despite scratching his cornea, Momoa can still see just fine. And he laughed everything off. “I love my job and I get a little too excited,” he said. “And then, you know, the age thing. I’m an aging superhero right now.”
A problem with DC?
Even though Momoa says it’s all good when it comes to the injuries he received on set, I can’t help but draw a comparison to another DC star who recently spoke out about their hardships on set: Ruby Rose.
Overnight, the actress took to Instagram to reveal the real reason why she was replaced as the title character on The CW show Batwoman. In graphic detail, she explained the type of injuries she received as well as the harassment she endured while making the television show. Add that on top of the previous accusations against DC and Warner Bros. from stars like Ray Fisher (Cyborg in Justice League) and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), and you start to get concerned about what’s going on behind the scenes at DC/Warner Bros.
As of now, though, it seems like Jason Momoa is completely fine with taking a cut or bruise or scratched cornea when filming these big-budget movies. But Momoa, I beg you, please blink twice if you need help.
