Kevin Feige opens up about a Venom-Spider-Man crossover

Warning! This story contains SPOILERS for Venom: Let There Be Carnage
It’s an excellent time to be Marvel Studios right now. After Disney acquired Fox, Marvel gained back control of the screen rights to several Marvel characters it couldn’t use before. And Sony, while not acquired by Disney, has been cooperating with Marvel Studios and sharing characters. We saw evidence of this when Spider-Man — a character that only Sony technically has the right to depict on the big screen — was finally brought into the MCU, played by Tom Holland. But will Tom Holland’s Spider-Man ever fight against some of Sony’s other Marvel characters, like Venom?
Well, those of us who have seen Venom: Let There Be Carnage already know the answer to that question. Thanks to the post-credits scene, we know that Eddie Brock and Venom are crossing over to the MCU, and they’re about to come face to face with Spider-Man.
We expect that meeting to come in Spider-Man: No Way Home; that movie features Peter Parker crossing dimensions and facing off against a host of Sony’s Spider-villains. But it’s also possible that Spidey and Venom could have their own duel adventure. Marvel boss Kevin Feige is finally here to set the record straight.
Expect a Spider-Man/Venom crossover soon
At the red carpet premiere for Eternals on Monday night, Feige told The Hollywood Reporter:
"There was a lot of coordination — and if you don’t know all the coordination yet, I’m not going to be the one to tell you — but yes, between Sony and Marvel and the Venom team and the No Way Home team, we worked together on it."
So, we’re glad that Feige clarified it wasn’t just Sony and Marvel that worked together but specifically the Venom and No Way Home teams. Already, from the Venom 2 post-credits scene, we saw that Venom — having only seen Peter Parker onscreen — was ready to come for the young hero. And remember that Peter is getting nothing but bad press right now, so Eddie/Venom may think they’re doing good by taking him down.
The downside to this crossover, though, is that it may just be a one-off thing: Venom and Eddie get accidentally transported into the MCU, but once the day is saved at the end of the movie (we’re assuming), they’ll go right back to their timeline.
I would definitely love to see a longer story told with Spider-Man and Venom, perhaps in a full movie. But it’s possible No Way Home could be the last solo Spider-Man movie we get from the MCU and Sony. There’s no telling where the two studios will take the character after this.
