6. A backstory for Abraham

Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) may have been brutally killed by Negan in the infamous season 7 premiere, “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be,” but the character is still regularly mentioned by other characters on the show. In the season 11 episode “Acheron: Part 2,” Rosita reveals she repeatedly dreams that Abraham is trying to tell her something. His influence is extensive, and the show won’t let us forget him. In fact, Cudlitz himself has even returned to direct a few episodes.

Abraham’s backstory particularly interests me as he was a Sergeant for the U.S. Army pre-apocalypse. And when the zombie outbreak began, he hauled up in a supermarket in Houston, Texas along with his wife, son and daughter. We get a few flashbacks to his past in the season 5 episode “Self Help,” but I want a look at the bigger picture.

After his family are killed by walkers, Abraham sets out and eventually bumps into Eugene, who of course lies about knowing the cure to the apocalypse, and we all know how things gofrom there:

The thing that would make Abraham’s backstory difficult to adapt is that we’ve already seen several flashback scenes. They would have to pick it up in a part of the timeline we haven’t explored yet. We know it’s teased in Fear The Walking Dead that he was interviewed by Althea (Maggie Grace), so maybe that could be a good entry point. Everyone loves a crossover.
