It’s almost time to get back into the TARDIS with the Doctor and her crew. And this year, Doctor Who will be special for quite a few reasons.

The biggest thing that’s special about Doctor Who season 13 is that it will be the final season where we see Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. For two seasons, she’s brought along Yaz, Ryan, and Graham with her on her adventures. But in her final outing, it’ll be just her and Yaz, along with the brand new companion, Dan.

On top of that, it was also announced that this will be the final season for showrunner Chris Chibnall. The showrunner has been on the series for as long as Jodie Whittaker’s been around. And come season 14, Russell T. Davies will be back in the chair as the showrunner for this long-running BBC show.

So with the season set to premiere on October 31, some fans may be wondering just how long season 13 is. After all, COVID restrictions and shutdowns have affected many series. For example, The Walking Dead and HBO’s The Nevers had to drastically alter their seasons because of shortened filming time. Doctor Who was not immune to these issues. So read on to learn more about the length of Doctor Who season 13.

How long is Doctor Who season 13?

Fans may be disappointed to hear that Doctor Who season 13 will only be six episodes long. Yep, you heard right. The season will be supremely short this year as a result of COVID limitations. But to make up for that, the series will have a different style this year.

Instead of having standalone episodes, the season will be more serialized, with each episode leading directly into the next. In fact, this season even has a special title: Doctor Who: Flux. So hopefully it will be short but sweet.

In addition to the short season, there will also be a series of three specials after that coming in 2022. This way, both Whittaker and Chibnall don’t get the short end of the stick when it comes to their final run on the show. And of course, come the last special we can expect to see the regeneration scene where the Doctor transforms from the Thirteenth version to the Fourteenth.
