Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) throws fireballs, takes oaths and embraces destiny in a spectacular trailer for The Wheel of Time on Amazon!

Amazon Prime Video has finally dropped a full trailer for The Wheel of Time, it’s adaptation of Robert Jordan’s 14-book strong epic fantasy series. Let’s not waste any time; watch it below!

The Wheel of Time is a sprawling tale, but at its center is Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski), a young farmer’s son who finds out he has a great destiny that will take him all over Jordan’s richly imagined fantasy world. But for this first season, it looks like the show is spotlighting Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), the Aes Sedai sorceress who comes to the sleepy, Shire-esque area where Rand and his friends lives and starts them off on their adventure.

That makes sense; Moiraine is a huge part of the books, and Pike is probably the most decorated actor in the cast. She’s basically the Gandalf of this story, if you will. And “the Dark One” they keep talking about is the Sauron.

It also looks like we’ll be flashing back to Moiraine early days; we see her taking the Aes Sedai oath to never lie, to make no weapon with which one person may kill another, and to never use the One Power — the means by which sorcerers and sorceresses use magic — as a weapon.

The Wheel of Time also stars Marcus Rutherford (Perrin), Madeleine Madden (Egwene), Zoë Robins (Nynaeve), Daniel Henney (Lan) and Barney Harris (Mat), although the latter will be replaced in season 2. And there are a lot more cast members besides; this is a huge series.

Some other observations from the trailer:

  • We get a look at the Children of the Light, a group of zealots who abhor Aes Sedai. They’re the dudes in the white outfits.
  • The Trollocs — servants of the Dark One that take the form of bipedal beast people — look great.
  • It looks like we’ll visit the Tar Valon — the city where the Aes Sedai make their home base — in season 1 even though we don’t see it in The Eye of the World, the first book in the series. I think I also see the Borderlands city of Fal Dara around 1:17.
  • The Aes Sedai using the One Power looks terrific. Throw those fireballs, Moiraine!

The Wheel of Time premieres on Amazon Prime Video on November 19.
