Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson & the Olympians books are among the most beloved novels to come out of the post-Harry Potter YA fantasy boom. There were a couple of movies that came out in the 2010s, but the series never really got the chance it deserved to catch onscreen.

Fast forward a few years and Disney is trying again with a TV series. And this time Riordan is more personally involved. “I am delighted to report that I am feeling more confident than ever about the quality of writing this show will have, and I am over the moon about the level of thoughtfulness and love for the PJO book series that everyone is bringing to the discussion,” he wrote on his blog. “This is a group that knows the books, understands the importance of making longtime (and brand new) readers happy, but also making a show that feels fresh and surprising in the best ways, so even if you think you know the story backwards and forwards, you will find the show a compelling experience.”

Riordan wrote that earlier this summer. Does that mean the show is moving along? Can we expect to see it this upcoming November even?

The Percy Jackson TV show is not coming to Disney+ in November 2021

Unfortunately, the Percy Jackson show is not premiering that soon. They’re in the writing phase, but it’ll be a while before they assemble a cast and get them in front of cameras, to say nothing of post-production tasks. We shouldn’t expect it anytime before 2023.

The Percy Jackson books tell the tale of Percy Jackson, the son of the Greek god Poseidon and a mortal woman. He then heads to a summer camp for other demigod children, which is basically the story’s version of Hogwarts. It’s a good story that has a chance to shine as a TV show. It’s just a shame it’s not coming sooner.
