The first season of Shadow and Bone — an adaptation of Leigh Bardugo’s novels — was a hit. People lapped up the story of  Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), a Grisha — a women in the Ravkan military who finds out she’s a Grisha, which basically means she has superpowers. She gets caught up with a power-hungry Grisha named General Kirigan (Ben Barnes) all while a trio of characters from across the dangerous fold plot to kidnap her so their benefactors can use her powers for their own ends.

Set in a fantasy world inspired by Tsarist Russia, Shadow and Bone had a lot going for it, and people want more. And happily, the cast announced earlier this summer that they were going back for more:

So a second season is on the way. The question now is: when?

When will Shadow and Bone season 2 drop on Netflix?

Unfortunately, we won’t see the second season of Shadow and Bone anytime soon. While season 2 was announced a while ago, we haven’t heard of any cameras rolling just yet, although Ben Barnes did hint that the show could filming again in 2022. “I’m hoping we go back beginning of next year and shoot,” he said on the Open House Party podcast this past September.

If Shadow and Bone season 2 doesn’t film until 2022 — and it no one seems certain of exactly when it might begin — then the earliest we could see new episodes would be later that year, and we wouldn’t be shocked if the premiere date didn’t slip into 2023.

So that’s not the best news, but at least there’s plenty to watch in the meantime:
