Kit Harington didn’t join the MCU just to appear in one movie

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, any character — no matter how incidental — can always get a spinoff or continuation down the line. At this rate, it feels like it’s more common than not. And that means it’s possible for the new Eternals character Dane Whitman, played by Game of Thrones veteran Kit Harington.
Of course, with Eternals coming out this weekend, we don’t yet know what sequels, if any, will materialize. Speaking to The A.V. Club, Harington shared his hopes for the future.
“I didn’t join up just for that character,” Harington said, hinting that his character be the Dane Whitman, aka the superhero Black Knight of Marvel Comics fame. “I joined up with the idea that what I read on the internet might come to pass on this movie. I think that if it does, that character has got some really, really cool stuff about him.”
If things do progress and Whitman becomes the Black Knight, Harington is the perfect fit for that character. He’s already had plenty of experience with the medieval-adjacent genre by playing Jon Snow for eight seasons. So suiting up in some armor again should be second nature.
Kit Harington’s MCU future unsure for now
Unfortunately, nothing in the MCU is official until Marvel Studios makes it official. So while there’s lots of evidence that we’ll be getting the Black Knight in the future, Harington said in a previous interview that there’s a possibility it may not happen, saying that “nothing is certain.” To him, that’s just the way it goes in Hollywood sometimes.
But I’d argue that by now, the MCU operates outside of Hollywood norms. It would take something really major for plans to fall through in the MCU. And right now, the only thing I could imagine getting in the way of that would be, let’s say, a super low Rotten Tomatoes score.
