Doctor Who season 13 (aka Doctor Who: Flux) marks the end of an era. Not for the entire series, but for showrunner Chris Chibnall and for the Thirteenth Doctor herself, Jodie Whittaker.
The season has already begun airing as of October 31. But this season is different because there will only be six episodes. That’s all due to COVID, which complicated filming. As such, we’re getting a shorter season. Although to make up for that, we’ll also be getting three more specials in 2022 before Chibnall and Whittaker are completely gone.
But back to Doctor Who season 13. With this being a short season, Chibnall has been promising something new for viewers: it will be serialized, meaning there will be no standalone episodes this season. The series will tell one story throughout all six episodes, and each one connects directly to the next.
In his previous two seasons, Chibnall’s writing received mixed reviews. This is his last chance to go out with a bang, but just how much of season 13 will he be writing personally? Who’s on the directing roster? Here’s what we know.
Doctor Who season 13 writers and directors
Chris Chibnall has written all but one of the episodes on his own. The fourth episode of the series is co-written by Maxine Alderton. Previously, Alderton wrote the episode “The Haunting of Villa Diodati” in season 12.
