The internet would rather Matt Berry voice Garfield rather than Chris Pratt

Chris Pratt has been snatching up all the big voice roles lately, whether he’s a good fit or not. Who SHOULD have voiced Garfield? The internet has thoughts.

In the past month and change, we’ve learned that Guardians of the Galaxy veteran Chris Pratt will voice both Super Mario in the upcoming Super Mario movie and Garfield the lasagna-loving cat in an upcoming Garfield movie. The announcements went over…weird, not so much because Pratt isn’t a good fit for these roles — I’m sure he’ll be fine — but because he seems like so unimaginative a choice. There’s nothing particularly unique about Pratt that makes him uniquely suited to playing either of these characters — he’s just an all-around funny actor who’s popular right now.

It kind of felt like the producers just cast the first person that popped into their heads, and Pratt getting both roles within weeks of each just reinforced that feeling. But where studio executives fail, the internet will pick up the slack. One person had a brilliant casting choice: Matt Berry from What We Do In The Shadows.

Berry is known for his deadpan delivery and creative approach to pronunciation, often putting an elaborately British spin on words that makes you want to repeat them later. After this first tweet went viral, another hero us what Berry might sound like as Garfield:

Now see, this is a creative choice! It’s one of those picks that you wouldn’t have thought of but once you hear it you can’t believe you missed it. And now I can’t stop saying “lasagna” like that…

Naturally, other folk on Twitter were fans of the idea too:

There’s no release date for the Garfield movie as of yet. That leaves Sony plenty of times to consider some changes, just saying.

Dwayne Johnson wants a Wonder Woman-Black Adam crossover. dark. Next
