Spanish city flies Targaryen flag in honor of House of the Dragon

HBO is still filming House of the Dragon, its prequel show to Game of Thrones. Set around 200 years before the original show, it tells the story of the Dance of the Dragons, a brutal Targaryen civil war that tore Westeros apart.

Like Game of Thrones, the show makes extensive use of location shooting, including several places in Spain. One of those places is the city of Cáceres, which stood in for King’s Landing in the original show. We’re not 100% sure what city it will stand in for on House of the Dragon (although a return to King’s Landing is a very good bet), but we know that the town council is very thankful to HBO for choosing to shoot there, because they flew the Targaryen flag outside city hall:

Keep in mind that this wasn’t for a shoot; this is just a local government flying a black-and-red dragon sigil because they want to. I think we can all agree that this is a good development and that more cities should follow suit.

House of the Dragon filming ends in Spain

And the flag goes up as House of the Dragon finishes shooting in Spain as a whole, according to Los Siete Reinos. In addition to Cáceres, the show has also filmed in Lloret de Mar and Mansanto.

That said, there’s still filming to do; HBO is shooting a lot of the indoor stuff in England. Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen) said he’ll be set through January.

Look out for House of the Dragon to premiere on HBO and HBO Max sometime in 2022.
