Harry Potter fans often return to the movie adaptations, but they know the films weren’t always accurate to the source material. In fact, they deviated from J.K. Rowling’s novels numerous times. And filming one of the movie-only moments actually made Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) uncomfortable.

She’s not the only one. Fans will remember all too well the moment in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One when Harry and Hermione share a dance after Ron storms off. The film implies a brief spark between the two characters, something the book never alluded to; their bond is kept platonic throughout the books.

Naturally, those who preferred Harry and Hermione’s friendship remain platonic weren’t all that fond of the scene. It created some controversy when the film first came out, and Watson saw it coming. Speaking with Hypable, the actress admitted that she approached producer David Heyman with her concerns:

"This is just so interesting because when I was doing the scene, I said to David: ‘This isn’t in the book, she didn’t write this.’ I’m not sure I am comfortable insinuating something however subtle it is!"

Of course, they moved forward with the dance anyway. “It’s a really haunting scene,” Watson said. “It is funny because it really divided people. Some people loved that scene and some people really didn’t.”

Fortunately, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two gave Ron and Hermione fans their big moment in the Chamber of Secrets. Despite Watson’s reservations, it does seem like everyone got something out of the final installments — even the parts that didn’t stick to the books.
