Today is the 20th anniversary of Halo: Combat Evolved, the first-person shooter video game that made Microsoft’s Xbox console a household name. The Halo series has lost a bit of its luster in recent years, but Microsoft is mounting a comeback with Halo Infinite, which is due out on December 8. To celebrate, they released the game’s free multiplayer mode today!

And that’s not all the company is doing to mark the occasion. Paramount+ has also released a brief teaser trailer for its long-in-development Halo TV show, starring Orange Is The New Black vet Pablo Schreiber as lead character Master Chief, a mostly silent genetically enhanced super soldier who pretty much always keeps his iconic green helmet on.

Okay, so it’s not much, but we get a shot of Schreiber’s scarred back, the voice of Jen Taylor as Master Chief’s AI buddy Cortana, and proof that this show is actually happening.

What is the Halo show about?

The story of Halo is pretty simple, especially in the first game: blow up ‘dem aliens. But Paramount+ promises that the series will “weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure, and a richly imagined vision of the future.” We’ll also get Natascha McElhone as the scientist who created super soldiers like Master Chief and his ilk.

There’s no release date set for the Halo show as of yet.
