When is Outlander coming back?
By Ariba Bhuvad
Fans waiting on Outlander season 6 are going through the longest Droughtlander to date. Due to the pandemic, production on Starz’s time-traveling romance series was delayed and didn’t start until January 2021.
But despite the roadblocks, the amazing cast and crew behind Outlander made it happen, and now fans are on the cusp of getting all-new episodes. It’s been a long wait, but we’ve been promised it will be worth it, even if we’re only getting a shortened season of eight episodes.
But dinna fash, Outlander season 7 will be an extended season with 16 episodes! There is no inkling as to when we can expect the seventh season, but there’s no time to worry about that with season 6 is just around the corner!
When will Outlander Season 6 premiere?
As of now, we don’t have a confirmed date. There was hope that we would get a premiere announcement during Outlander’s New York Comic-Con panel, but all we know so far is that the show will return in 2022. Based on past seasons, I would take a guess and say that it will likely be around March or April, but maybe they’ll feel pity for us and give it to us earlier.
At least we have this exciting teaser to hold us over:
The trailer features a lot gloom and doom, because the Revolutionary War has finally arrived at Fraser’s Ridge and things aren’t looking too great. Apart from the war, Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) is dealing with the aftermath of the sexual assault she endured at the end of season 5. There will be a lot of processing and healing that needs to happen, which will present its own set of challenges.
Outlander season 6 is based on the sixth novel in Diana Gabaldon’s series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. Some of the storylines from this book were covered in season 5, but it’s a long week and there’s still plenty more to get through.
The Fraser family has a lot of trauma to recover from. Roger (Richard Rankin) was hanged and nearly died, Jamie (Sam Heughan) also nearly died after being bit by a poisonous snake, and we lost Jamie’s godfather Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) during the Battle of Alamance. The family is in bits and pieces. Hopefully season 6 will get them on the right path.
We’ll also see some new characters come to Fraser’s Ridge and rattle things up. It’s going to be a wild season! There’s a lot to look forward to and we’ll be here to update you along the way!
