Last night, Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson received an American Cinematheque Award, and many of her Marvel colleagues lined up on stage to slather her with praise. That include MCU head honcho Kevin Feige, who went a little further and revealed that he and Johansson were working on a “top secret Marvel Studios project,” according to Deadline.
He didn’t reveal the nature of the project, but apparently it has nothing to do with Natasha Romanoff, the character Johansson has played since Iron Man 2 way back in 2010. I doubt that’s true, by the way. Like, maybe the character won’t literally be the Natasha we know, since she died in Avengers: Endgame, but my money’s on an alternate universe version of her or something.
Whatever the project is, Johansson will also be on board as a producer.
Scarlet Johansson doesn’t regret suing Disney
Some might be surprised to hear that Johansson is working with Marvel again given that she recently sued parent company Disney for tens of millions of dollars, arguing that the company reneged on her contract by releasing Black Widow both in theaters and on Disney+, where fans could watch it for an extra fee.
The parties ended up settling that lawsuit, with Johansson getting a reported $40 million on top of the $20 flat fee she got paid for doing the movie in the first place. So maybe it’s natural that she wouldn’t hold a grudge about it. “I feel very fortunate that I was able to stand up for what was right,” she told USA Today. “In the end, I’m really thankful that no one else will ever have to deal with that, and so that feels good to me… It feels like some progress.”
You can decide for yourself what was right in that situation, but the fence is clearly mended.
Kevin Feige “nowhere near bored” with managing Marvel Studios
Shifting back to Feige, he was asked at a press event for the upcoming Hawkeye show about the danger of overexposing the Marvel brand — there have been three Marvel movies that came out this year, plus four Marvel TV shows with another on the way, so it’s not a crazy thing to ask. That said, the movies and shows continue to be successes, so if fans are fatigued, they’re not showing it yet:
"That it doesn’t seem like an overabundance of this. I have always said, nobody will get bored before we at Marvel Studios will of these projects. And going 20 plus years, I’m not anywhere near bored yet. Because we’re allowed to do within the sub-genre, so many different types of things."
Hawkeye premieres on Disney+ on November 24.
