Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for Cowboy Bebop!

If you watched a few episodes of Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop live-action remake, you may have several questions you want answered. What is the history of Jet Black and Faye Valentine? Will Vicious ever defeat the Syndicate? Where’s Radical Ed? Should I cosplay as one of the characters next Halloween? (The answer to the last question is 100% yes.)

There are all great questions, but the biggest may be whether your favorite space cowboy Spike Spiegel make it out of the show alive.

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered; we’ll tell you everything you need to know about Spike Spiegel’s fate.

Does Spike Spiegel die?

At the end of the 1998 Cowboy Bebop anime, Spike Spiegel seems to die. But in the 2021 live-action adaptation, Spike Spiegel is alive and well.

Though he has a nasty brush with death after battling his ex-ally Vicious and though he was shot out of a church window by his ex-lover Julia, Spike managed to come out breathing, albeit badly battered. He’s most likely being nursed back to health by Radical Edward, who found him while he was in a drunken stupor.

Spike being alive may come as a shock to viewers of the anime series because, as previously mentioned, he seems to die at the end. His current status is unknown to this day, but it’s presumed that he finally died after completing his second go at life, which included facing his past.

Whether you’re an anime fan who thinks Spike’s fate should remain a mystery or a new fan relishing the fact that our black-haired protagonist is A-okay, at least now you’re not wondering what exactly happened.
