The Wheel of Time, Amazon’s elaborate TV show based on Robert Jordan’s 14-book fantasy series, is finally here. The show is solid, but it’s changed quite a bit about the books, including the journey of one Nynaeve al’Meara, played by Zoë Robbins on the series.
Nynaeve is a Wisdom, a kind of healer and public figure, in the town of Emond’s Field. Book-readers know she is fierce, quick to anger and suffers no fools. She has a huge story in the books, so people may have been very surprised when she’s carried off by a Trolloc at the end of the premiere episode and presumed dead.
But did she actually die? Well, if you kept watching after that, you already know the answer. But in case you’re still in the dark…
Nynaeve does not die in The Wheel of Time
Nynaeve is an important part of literally all 14 books. Of course they didn’t kill her! As we learn in the second episode, after the Trolloc takes her away she plays a terrifying game of cat and mouse with it that ends with her stabbing the beast to death in a pool of water.
Honestly, I’m not really sure why they bothered with this change, since after this Nynaeve just follows Moiraine and company and catches up with them much in the same way she does in the books. Maybe so they could have a surprise ending for Episode 2?
Whatever. New episodes of The Wheel of Time drop every Friday.
