We’re less than a month away from the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and instead of doing press hyping the release of the movie, Andrew Garfield continues his killjoy attempt to squash fans’ hopes that he’s reprising his role as Peter Parker from the Amazing Spider-Man films. He started off playing coy, saying things like “I’m not the werewolf,” moving on to categorically deny his involvement, and now says he’s straight up “done” answering more questions.

At this point, the rumor that former Spider-Men Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will appear alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home is so old it feels retro. And yet, with two trailers and only weeks to go until the movie’s release, Garfield continues to deny his involvement. However, if Sony was hoping for the movie to surprise us, it’s hoping in vain. From strange editing in the trailer (Who punched Lizard?), to several legit-looking behind-the-scenes photographs, it’s safe to assume that both Maguire and Garfield are in there.

For his part, Garfield has been dancing around questions for weeks, starting off by playing coy and saying things like “I’m not the werewolf,” moving on to categorically deny his involvement, and now saying he’s straight up “done” answering more questions. He said that last one came in a video from GQ where he responds to fans across social media, including the ones wondering if he’s back as Peter Parker:

“Listen, at this point…I’m done,” Garfield said after reacting to leaked pictures of himself on set. “We’ll all find out when the movie comes out and we’ll either be very disappointed or we’ll be very happy or someone will say, ‘I told you so.’ And then another person will say, ‘But I told you so.’ We’ll all find out, I’m sorry in advance.”

I’d love to know how strict his non-disclosure agreement is because Garfield is really digging a hole for himself here.

Andrew Garfield answers more Spider-Man questions

Garfield also weighed in on what his version of Peter Parker would think of Tony Stark. Turns out he would not get along nearly as well with Iron Man as Tom Holland’s Spidey:

"I definitely think Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man would be pretty suspect of MCU Iron Man. I think he would be a little turned off by the excess, the billionaire, trillionaire status of Iron Man. I think it would rub my version of Spider-Man the wrong way. But maybe there could be some influence there. Maybe my Peter Parker could wake Tony Stark up to his own egoic drives a little bit."

Perhaps a What If…? episode is in order?

Moreover, when shown an image of three Spider-Man suits from the trio of actors and asked which one he liked best, Garfield of course picked his own suit from The Amazing Spider-Man II. But between Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire, he preferred Tom’s.

Spider-Man: No Way Home, featuring Tom Holland and almost certainly Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, premieres on Friday, December 17.
