Rejoice, Outlander fans! We finally know when the Droughtlander will end. Starz announced that the series will return at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

This will mark the end of a longer-than-usual Drougtlander as the production had to clear hurdles set up by COVID, as did many TV shows and movies. The season 5 finale aired on May 10, 2020, meaning that nearly two years will have elapsed before we get caught up with Jamie, Claire, and the rest of the characters.

What’s more, because of the production difficulties, the upcoming season will only be eight episodes long. It’s the shortest season of the show so far, although star Sam Heughan has called it “small, but mighty.” The series will also make up for it in season 7, which will have an outsized 16 episodes!

What is Outlander season 6 about?

As for what happens in Outlander season 6, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) is dealing with the fallout of a traumatic encounter with Lionel Brown (Ned Dennehy) at the end of season 5. Meanwhile, the Revolutionary War is on the horizon, which could cause problems since Claire and Jamie’s land — Fraser’s Ridge — was granted to them by the British crown. It should be an exciting season, smaller episode count or no.

See you in the new year!
