The Wheel of Time is now the most pirated show in the world
By Dan Selcke
For a long time, Game of Thrones had the honor of being the most-pirated show in the world. Even over a year after it ended in 2019, it held onto that title. But it eventually did make way for new contenders like The Mandaorian. And now, a new fantasy show has usurped it as the top commodity among pirates.
This is according to piracy analytics firm MUSO, which revealed that Amazon’s The Wheel of Time series is the most pirated show over the past week, according to Deadline. Not that be “piracy,” we’re talking about episodes shared illicitly on peer-to-peer networks, not episodes streamed on illegal streaming sites.
In any case, here are the most pirated TV shows over the past week:
- The Wheel of Time (Amazon)
- Foundation (Apple TV+)
- Arcane (Netflix)
- Succession season 3 (HBO)
- Star Trek: Discovery season 4 (Paramount+)
- Dexter season 9 (Showtime)
- Yellowstone season 4 (Paramount Network)
- The Blacklist season 9 (NBC)
- Invasion (Apple TV+)
- Dexter: New Blood (Showtime)
It’s interesting that the final season of the original Dexter show is being pirated more than the reboot. I guess people want to catch up.
In any case, The Wheel of Time is a good successor to Game of Thrones in this area, since they’re both big splashy fantasy dramas. We’ll see if they can make it a streak. There are lots of high-profile shows coming out in the next couple months that will surely be catnip to pirates, including Hawkeye, The Witcher and The Book of Boba Fett.
No Time To Die is the world’s most pirated movie
MUSO also provided a list of the most pirated movies over the same time period:
- No Time To Die
- Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
- Red Notice
- Dune
- Free Guy
- Venom: Let There Be Carnage
- Last Night in Soho
- Finch
- Black Widow
- F9
It’s a pirate’s life for a lot of people out there.
