Who is the Dragon Reborn on The Wheel of Time?

Everything on The Wheel of Time revolves around the Dragon Reborn, a messianic figure who will either save the world or destroy it. Moiraine and Lan set out from the White Tower to find the Dragon. The latest episode of the show is literally called “The Dragon Reborn” and deals with the “False Dragon” Logain Ablar pretending to the title.
But if Logain isn’t the Dragon Reborn, then who is? Moiraine thinks it’s one of the four kids who traveled with her out of Emond’s Field: Rand, Mat, Perrin and Egwene. And they have all showed signs of great power: Rand busted through that door, Perrin can apparently talk to wolves, something weird is going on with Mat and Egwene can channel with barely any instruction. And at the end of “The Dragon Reborn,” Nynaeve uses the power to heal the Aes Sedai and warders Logain had injured, so she has officially entered the chat.
As you may know, The Wheel of Time is based on a series of books that have been done for years, so we do know who the Dragon Reborn is. If you want to know too, read on, but beware SPOILERS.
And the Dragon Reborn is…
Rand. It’s Rand. The Dragon Reborn is Rand al’Thor. Apologies if that answer was anticlimactic.
If the show follows the books, we will find out Rand’s identity as the Dragon Reborn at the end of the first season. On the page, it’s a little more obvious from the start that Rand is the one because large chunks of the novel are told from his perspective; who else is it gonna be? On the TV show he’s feels more like part of an ensemble, which means the series can draw out the mystery a bit longer.
The show also changed things up a bit by expanding the potential pool of people who could be the Dragon. In the books, only Rand, Mat and Perrin are the contenders. On the show, Egwene and Nynaeve are thrown into the mix as well. I’ve enjoyed that change and think it makes things more interesting.
Even though Rand is the Dragon Reborn, rest assured that Mat, Perrin, Egwene and Nynaeve will all have very important roles to play throughout the series.
