History had a hit with Vikings, its historical (mostly) show about the famed Scandinavian warriors. Of course a spinoff is in the works, but weirdly it won’t be on History. Instead, Netflix will air Vikings: Valhalla.
But it won’t air it in December of 2021. The series is being shot right now, but it isn’t ready yet.
Actually, Netflix has wrapped on the show’s second season and is already prepping a third. Clearly, the streamer thinks it has a winner here if it’s planning so far ahead. Netflix has ordered 26 episodes of the show.
When does Vikings: Valhalla come out on Netflix?
Vikings featured characters from Scandinavian legend like Ragnar Lothbrok. Similarly, Vikings: Valhalla will feature real-life figures mixed in with characters from legend, like Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett) and Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson). Vikings wasn’t overly concerned with getting every historical detail right and Valhalla probably won’t be either.
We don’t know when Vikings: Valhalla will make its grand entrance, but expect it to come along sometime in 2022. Does Netflix have a hit on its hands that can rival its predecessor, or is Valhalla destined to pale in comparison to the original series? Hopefully we’ll find out sooner rather than later.
