Tom Holland has already won the hearts of Marvel fans everywhere for playing Spider-Man in the MCU. And soon, gamers will see his take on iconic video game character Nathan Drake from the Uncharted franchise. The Uncharted movie, directed by Ruben Fleischer, has already got the seal of approval from original Nathan Drake voice actor Nolan North, who believes it has “nailed the tone” of the franchise.

In Uncharted, Holland stars alongside Mark Wahlberg (Victor “Sully” Sullivan), as they embark on a perilous globetrotting quest to uncover the “greatest treasure never found.” Drake also finds clues as to the whereabouts of his long-lost brother.

“I can’t wait to see this film,” Nolan North said during a panel at ECCC. “I got to meet Tom Holland; he’s a huge fan. I met Ruben Fleischer, the director, as well. He’s a fan, and…I think they did a brilliant move by like, ‘Let’s find Nathan Drake in his 20s.’ Because none of the games ever address that.”

North also weighed in on the comedy bits the movie appears to have added. “That little bit of humor in a film like that is so important,” he said. “I think he nailed the tone, from what I’ve seen.”

Does Nolan North have a cameo in the Uncharted movie?

Of course, as the original voice of the video game franchise, it only seems fitting that North should have some sort of cameo in the movie. However, while he doesn’t categorically deny that he’s involved, he doesn’t confirm it either.

Back in 2020, ComicBookMovie.com asked North about a cameo. “No, they haven’t contacted me at all,” he said. “Part of me is fine with it, and part of me is like, ‘It’d be nice if you asked!’ It’s not a big deal.” Whether that situation has changed a year later remains to be seen.

Nolan knows exactly what it’s like to follow up on an incredible performance from a different actor. In Square Enix’s Avengers video game, North had the challenge of playing Tony Stark, who was famously played by Robert Downey Jr. North stopped himself from doing an impression and instead took the role in a different direction. “I said, ’I love Iron Man; I can’t wait to play Iron Man — but I’m not gonna do a Robert Downey Jr. impression because that’s just setting myself up for failure.”

Similarly, hopefully Tom Holland can do Nathan Drake justice, and maybe add something new. Uncharted releases exclusively in theaters on February 18, 2022.
