At the end of the most recent episode of The Wheel of Time, Moiraine stepped into a Waygate along with the five four kids she took with her from the Two Rivers, one of whom is the incredibly powerful Dragon Reborn. Her plan is to take to the Eye of the World, where Siuan Sanche told her the Dark One is recuperating. There, she intends to force a confrontation between the Dark One and the Dragon, perhaps ending an apocalyptic war before it starts.

But what exactly is the Eye of the World? Well, it depends on what text you’re looking at, because it doesn’t sound like the Eye of the World on the show is the same as the Eye of the World from Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time books. On the page, the Eye of the World is a spot in the Blight, a barren land heavy with the influence of the Dark One. This spot was created by a male and female Aes Sedai thousands of years ago shortly after the Dark One tainted saidin, the male half of the true source. It contains a pool of pure, untainted saidin, as well as artifacts left over the Age of Legends. These include the the Dragon Banner of Lews Therin, the previous Dragon; and the Horn of Valere.

In the books, Moiraine takes the Two Rivers folk to the Eye to determine for certain which of them can channel. They also encounter Someshta, the Guardian of the Eye constructed by the Aes Sedai long ago. In the books, the Eye is not where the Dark One is imprisoned. The closest thing to that is Shayol Ghul, a great black mountain from which the Blight spreads.

Which version of the Eye of the World will we see?

It’s hard to know which version of the Eye of the World we’ll see on the show. Perhaps it will take elements from both versions. It would be a pretty big change to have the literal Dark One just hanging out at the Eye of the World, though.

One thing we do know is that by the time this season is over, we will know who the Dragon Reborn is.

dark. Next. The Wheel of Time goes Game of Thrones in “The Flame of Tar Valon”
