Outlander season 6 will premiere in March of next year, marking the end of the longest Droughtlander fans have had to endure since the series started. To say the wait has been agonizing is putting it very lightly.

At least it’s nearly over, and as the days and months go by, we’re starting to get more insight into what to expect for the upcoming sixth season. In an interview with Elle, series star Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser) spoke about her character’s state of mind heading into the season.

Just in case you’ve forgotten (although it’s pretty difficult), Claire endured a traumatic assault in season 5, which ended with her trying to put the broken pieces of her psyche back together. It’s safe to say there is a very long road ahead for her, and I’m not sure I’m ready for it!

What’s ahead for Claire Fraser in Outlander season 6

According to Balfe, things will be really uncomfortable for Claire when the sixth season begins. She’s been rattled to her core, and it’s going to take some time for her to find stable ground.

“The events of the end of season 5 have really destabilized Claire in a way that we’ve never seen before,” Balfe said. “I think Claire has always been able to compartmentalize things and move on; she has that very 1940s can-do attitude. She packs things up in a little box, she parks it, and she gets on with the rest of her life. And we see that she’s unable to use that coping mechanism, to get through this particular incident.”

"So it’s really lovely to actually finally unpick her in a way, and find her core vulnerabilities. I think it’s the only way she can properly heal, because she has to find a new way of coping. She has to find a new way through. There’s really great stuff for Claire this season. We’ve got some great directors back, and I think we’re playing around again with the style of the show, so that’s really exciting."

Balfe is such a phenomenal actress (have you seen her in Belfast yet?) and I cannot wait to see her deliver what I believe will be a performance of a lifetime in Outlander Season 6. And if the awards circuit refuses to acknowledge her for it, I say we riot!

Outlander season 6 premieres on March 6, 2022 on Starz — jot that down, memorize it, and don’t forget it. It’s going to be the start of something amazing!
