Star Wars fans “don’t even know” what’s coming in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show
By Dan Selcke
Among the 30,000 Star Wars series Lucasfilm is readying for Disney+ is a show about Obi-Wan Kenobi starring Ewan McGregor back in the role of the wizened Jedi master, and Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.
This one is a big deal, especially for Star Wars fans raised on the prequels, who naturally are eager to find out anything they can about it. For better or worse, the cast is keeping their lips sealed, although some — like O’Shea Jackson — are bursting to talk about it.
“It’s so hard,” Jackson told Screen Rant about the show; we don’t know who he’s playing. “It’s so hard because like anything that I’ll read or see on the internet, I just want to just be like, ‘You don’t even know, you don’t even know what’s gonna go down!’ All these guesses and people going down the wrong rabbit hole, it’s funny to watch. But as soon as I get the green light, I might do a two-hour special talking about everything.”
We should see the Obi-Wan Kenobi show sometime next year.
The Book of Boba Fett is “a take on gangster movies”
In the meantime, fans can enjoy another Star Wars series, The Book of Boba Fett, later this month. This one stars Temuera Morrison, another prequel trilogy veteran, as infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett; Morrison previously played Boba’s “father” Jango Fett, but since the former is a clone of the latter, naturally he’s perfect for the part.
The show will see Boba taking over Jabba the Hutt’s old criminal empire will the help of bounty hunter Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), who he saved from the edge of death in the first season of The Mandalorian. Speaking to NME, Ming-Na said the show is “more like a take on gangster movies” and described the bond between Shand and Fett:
"I feel like they are bonded because both of them had near-death experiences. They’re both bounty hunters, and they do adhere to a certain level of respect and honor. He saved her, and there’s a debt to be paid, and bounty hunters honor that debt."
Indeed, Boba Fett did nearly die at the Sarlacc Pit in Return of the Jedi. We actually don’t know how he escaped that, but I assume the show will explain it all.
The Book of Boba Fett drops on December 29.
