If there’s one thing Amazon’s The Boys does better than almost any other superhero show, it’s  pushing boundaries. In the first two seasons, we’ve seen countless crazy things happen: heads spontaneously erupting, babies shooting lasers from their eyes, acid melting people…the list goes on. For The Boys, extreme brutality is the now. And according to showrunner Eric Kripke, season 3 will continue to up the ante.

If you’re wondering how the show could possibly find new ways to shock fans, well, those who have read The Boys comic book have a good idea. The third season will adapt a storyline from Garth Ennis’ 6-issue comic event called “Herogasm,” where the Supes are involved in one big superhero orgy, although the public is led to believe they are saving the world from an alien invasion.

“There’s definitely a lot of madness,” Kripke teased to TV Guide. “It’s not a secret that we’re doing an episode about ‘Herogasm’ from the comics, which is a massive superhero orgy.”

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are plenty of other surprises in store. “And we’re doing something in the first episode that I think is definitely the craziest thing we’ve ever pulled off,” Kripke teased, “and might be one of the craziest things anybody’s ever tried to pull off.”

What could be crazier than a giant superhero orgy? I daren’t think about it, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Is Stormfront in The Boys season 2?

One thing Kripke confirmed was that Stormfront (Aya Cash) is indeed still alive…basically. “She has been relieved of her limbs and is kind of a charred mess, but she’s not dead.”

There are a ton of superhero movies and TV shows around these days, so making one that stands out from the crowd is a massive achievement. The Boys is doing just that. It’s even creating a little extended universe of its own with two spinoff shows, one set in a superhero college and the other an animated show called Diabolical. There’s even a cool little satirical news show on YouTube called Seven on 7 on VNN. Clearly, everyone involved in this franchise is passionate about getting the most out of it. Kripke took a moment praise the cast:

"I’ve been around the block a few times and so I know how rare this situation is where they all love each other. But they’re all friends, they love the material and they are always pushing to make it better."

The Boys is already a hot superhero property, and it’s only going to get bigger and better. It sounds like these cast members are ready to stick around for a while.

Giancarlo Esposito (Stan Edgar) talks about why he loves The Boys

Kripke isn’t lying about how dedicated the cast is. Just listen to how passionate Giancarlo Esposito (Vought CEO Stan Edgar) sounds about it. “This is a wonderful show,” he said during an appearance at C2E2. “If you haven’t seen it, you must see it. It’s superheroes with human emotions, struggling against why they’re in this body with all these chemicals that are rushing through their system, trying to figure out how they got there and how that happened. They become a pawn of Vought … and so, Stan is so secure in his knowledge of human nature, that that was my route in to be able to be that softer, villainous character who knows how to play chess.”

Esposito couldn’t be more perfect for the role. From playing Gus in Breaking Bad to Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian, he’s become a go-to onscreen villain. No one can do a tense, intimidating death stare better than he can.

The first two seasons of The Boys are currently streaming on Amazon Prime. Season 3 doesn’t have a premiere date yet but will drop sometime in 2022.
