The Wheel of Time season 2 is not coming out in January 2022

With season 1 of The Wheel of Time recently concluded on Amazon Prime Video, the long wait now begins for the premiere of the show’s second season. The season finale of Amazon’s newest fantasy epic boasted some big battles and bigger cliffhangers, setting us up for a season 2 that promises to be even more challenging for the Dragon Reborn and their allies.

Is Moiraine really cut off from the One Power? What’s in that box Padan Fain stole from Fal Dara? What’s with that ominous army sailing up to the western coast? So many questions!

But none is more pressing than when will season 2 of The Wheel of Time be released? How long must we wait?!

Well, you might have guessed that since season 1 ended only last month, we will most certainly not be seeing season 2 of The Wheel of Time hit Amazon Prime Video in January 2022. No matter how high those streaming numbers might have been, they can’t make shows magically finish faster. Or maybe they can, since Amazon’s faith in The Wheel of Time was so strong that the studio greenlit a second season before the first had even aired. This means that showrunner Rafe Judkins and the rest of the cast and crew are already hard at work on the second season, which certainly bodes well.

Amazon Studios executive Vernon Sanders has even seen the first couple of episodes. “Rafe and the team have just shared the first few episodes of season 2, and I wish I could get those out to everyone right away,” he said recently. “They’re just, they’re great.”

When does The Wheel of Time season 2 come out?

The question of when The Wheel of Time’s second season is coming is one that many fans are wondering right now, and it’s pretty understandable. With the pandemic delaying shows and movies alike over these past few years, it makes sense to wonder if we’re going to get anything remotely resembling a regular release schedule — especially going into a show like The Wheel of Time, which is being projected to last around eight seasons.

Judging by how Amazon has operated with The Expanse, pushing it out yearly like clockwork, I’d say it’s likely the studio will try to get the second season of The Wheel of Time out in late 2022. Considering that Amazon’s highly anticipated Lord of the Rings prequel series is slated for release on September 2, it’s likely that The Wheel of Time will start airing after that show has its finale to try and keep those fantasy viewers subscribed to Amazon Prime.

Until then, January’s still a great month for a rewatch. Now that everyone knows who the Dragon Reborn is, there are plenty of layered details in the first season of The Wheel of Time.
