The Batman is the most anticipated movie of 2022
By Michael East
2022 is set to be a fantastic year for movies, with some potentially massive blockbusters waiting to roll out as audiences hopefully come flooding back into theaters after the threat of COVID recedes (fingers crossed). As expected, there will be plenty of superheroes, but audiences are anticipating one movie above all others: The Batman.
Robert Pattinson will be playing the Caped Crusader, a choice some questioned given his past role as the sparkly Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise. Pattinson, however, has been working for a long time to move past that part, with his role in The Lighthouse being lauded as an example of his true abilities.
Most viewers, it seems, are ready to give him a chance, with The Batman being named by IMDb users as their most anticipated movie of 2022 in a recent poll. Many doubters were undoubtedly won over by the release of The Batman’s trailer this past October. Set to a remixed version of Nirvana’s “Something in the Way,” the dark and grungy aesthetics won plenty of plaudits.
Somewhat surprisingly, the next installment of the Scream franchise comes in second place. The fifth movie in the series and the first since 2011, Scream will be a relaunch for the horror franchise but not a reboot. David Arquette, Neve Campbell, and Courteney Cox will all be returning, with the film hitting cinemas on January 14.
In third place comes Thor: Love and Thunder. The 29th MCU movie and the fourth one for Thor, Love, and Thunder is a direct sequel to 2017s Thor: Ragnarok. Directed by fan-favorite Taika Waititi, Chris Hemsworth will return as Thor alongside an immense cast that includes Natalie Portman back as Jane Foster. Other cast members include Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, and Vin Diesel as Groot. Matt Damon, Sam Neill, Luke Hemsworth, and Russell Crowe will all make cameos.
Top 10 most anticipated movies of 2022
The rest of the list is full of big-budget genre movies, including the latest film in the Mission: Impossible franchise, video game adaptation Uncharted, the conclusion to the Jurassic World trilogy, and of course, more Marvel.
- The Batman
- Scream
- Thor: Love and Thunder
- Top Gun: Maverick
- Killers of the Flower Moon
- Jurassic World Dominion
- Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
- Mission: Impossible 7
- Uncharted
- The Flash
Shockingly, there is no place on IMDB’s list for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse or Avatar 2. Except for Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, every entry on the list is from an existing franchise. Other notable absences include Morbius, Black Adam, Creed III and the new Chris Pratt-led Mario film.
