The Book of Boba Fett stars tease finale “surprises”
By Daniel Roman
Move aside Hutts, there’s a new crime lord in town. The newest Star Wars series on Disney+, The Book of Boba Fett, sees the titular bounty hunter (Temuera Morrison) assuming the throne of his former employer Jabba the Hutt and attempting to become the new criminal kingpin of Mos Espa. Aiding Boba in his endeavor is Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), another bounty hunter who was introduced during the first season of The Mandalorian.
We’re only two episodes into The Book of Boba Fett so far, but the show has found its footing fast. The story alternates between Fennec and Boba’s attempts to claim power in a dusty town where everyone has their own agenda, and flashbacks to Boba Fett’s journey back to power after being thrown into the Sarlacc Pit in Return of the Jedi. Overall, it’s been a pretty solid show so far.
It’s not clear yet whether The Book of Boba Fett will be a one-off event series or get multiple seasons, but already Wen and Morisson are making the press rounds and talking up what’s to come in the Episode Seven finale.
The road to The Book of Boba Fett
The journey to get here has been anything but straight-forward for Wen and Morisson. Both actors have been working in the entertainment industry since the mid-’80s, and to hear them tell it, the idea that they would one day get to headline a series like Boba Fett so late in their careers is a lot to process.
“It means that if you have a dream and a desire to be something now or later in your life, dream it, make it happen, because if it happened to me, it can happen to anyone,” Wen told The Hollywood Reporter. “This is something that I fantasized about as a young kid, 10 or 11 years old. I’d be in my own living room, imagining myself as a Jedi or a female Han Solo. And now it’s happened. So I hope I’m an example that you can make your dreams come true.”
Morisson also reflected on how his path to donning the Boba Fett armor started in an unlikely place: his meeting Marvel producer and Mandalorian showrunner Jon Favreau while working on the romantic comedy Couples Retreat.
“Sometimes, life is about relationships, and while I didn’t get to do much on Couples Retreat, I got to meet Jon. And at that time, he was prepping to direct Iron Man,” Morrison said. “So he obviously sat around a table where they said, ‘Well, Boba’s got to look like Jango [Fett], so let’s see what Tem is doing.’ So I had this wonderful opportunity to get back on this journey, this vessel, this walker, and it’s been exciting and thrilling.”
“Surprises” to come in the season finale of The Book of Boba Fett
Things took a very interesting turn when Morisson almost let slip something he wasn’t supposed to about the upcoming season finale, forcing Wen to step in and redirect the conversation. The Boba Fett actor laughed it off, and recovered with grace.
“Yes, full of surprises. The Book of Boba ‘full of surprises’ series,” he said. “Yeah, we’ve got some good stuff coming up. Ooh, wait till episode seven, wow!”
Now, there’s not too much we can mine from that…but looking at some of the rumors flying around, there’s certainly a very specific surprise that fans are wondering about. If you are the SPOILER-averse type, this is your chance to look away…
Fans have speculated that The Book of Boba Fett finale will include a surprise cameo by Harrison Ford’s Han Solo, similar to how Luke Skywalker showed up at the end of The Mandalorian season 2. Now, there’s not a lot to go on for this rumor as of yet…but it’s definitely on a lot of people’s minds. Morisson and Wen also did an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment where Morrison was point blank asked about how a second showdown between his character and Han Solo could pan out.
“It won’t be a pretty sight for [Han Solo],” Morisson joked. “Since he was responsible for my Sarlacc experience, I owe him big time. He’s going to be going in that Sarlacc and then some!”
Whether or not Han Solo is the “surprise” or it’s something different, The Book of Boba Fett definitely has our attention. New episodes drop every Wednesday on Disney+.
