In 2021, Marvel Studios debuted five TV series on Disney+: WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…? and Hawkeye. Now I know what you’re thinking: but that’s not nearly enough! And Marvel agrees with you. It’s working on a lot of new projects, including She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight and a Halloween special starring Gael Garcia Bernal as the hero Werewolf by Night, who can become a werewolf but retain his human faculties.
And now, Deadline reports that Laura Donnelly, best known for playing the lead role of Amalia True on HBO’s The Nevers, is joining the special! We’re not entirely sure who she’ll play, but smart money is on Vampire by Night, the niece of Bernal’s character. Her real name is Nina Price, who already carries the lycan gene when she’s bitten by a vampire.
So she’s a werewolf/vampire hybrid. Does this mean they get to put a Dracula cape on a wolf? I hope so.
Marvel’s Halloween Special release date
Bernal and Donnelley are both talented, so I expect this special to live up to Marvel’s usual high standards. There’s no word on whether it will be a one-off lark or something that pushes the Marvel Cinematic Universe forward, but Marvel does love to lay groundwork for what comes next, so I wouldn’t take my eye off it.
Expect Marvel’s Halloween special to air around Halloween, obviously. There’s also a Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special coming a bit later.
