Today is all about new TV shows, some of which are old. Case in point: Deadline reports that NBC is rebooting Quantum Leap, the classic sci-fi series about a handsome scientist played by Scott Bakula who becomes unstuck in time and drifts to to and from various periods preventing historical tragedies. The series, which also starred the late Dean Stockwell as a dude from the future who helped Bakula navigate the situation of the week, ran from 1989 to 1993. And now, it’s finally leaping back.

A reboot has been in the works for a while. At the moment, Bakula isn’t involved, although you figure they’ve at least got to toss him a cameo or something, right?

Disney is making a Real Steel TV show

And Quantum Leap is far from the only sci-fi idea getting another change. Variety reports that Disney is rebooting Shawn Levy’s 2011 movie Real Steel, about an ex-prizefighter (Hugh Jackman) who has a comeback by training a robot to fight other robots in the ring (as it the style in the near future), as a TV series on Disney+.

The original movie was a hit back when it premiered, but didn’t change the world. But as Levy told Inverse back in August of last year, the wheels started turning when people began watching the movie on Netflix during the pandemic. “It became one of their top trending and most viewed titles, which led to Hugh and I talking again about, ‘Wow, what is this? This love for Real Steel?'” Levy said. “And kind of this realization that, ‘Well wait, we love it that much too. We’ve always loved it that much too. So it’s one of those, never say never. And even though it feels like the clock has run out on that window of opportunity. It feels like that fan love and that audience hasn’t gone away. So who knows?”

And here we are.

Disney is bringing back Tim Allen for a TV show based on The Santa Clause

In 1994’s The Santa Clause, Tim Allen’s character Scott Calvin accidentally kills Santa (a dark start, I know) and then must take over the role of St. Nick himself. Two sequel movies followed, and now, SyFy Wire reports that Allen is returning for a Santa Clause TV series on Disney+.

According to Disney’s official synopsis, The Santa Clause will catch up with Scott “on the brink of his 65th birthday,” as he starts to “lose a step” in his job as Santa. He also now has two kids who have only ever known at the North Pole. To give his family a more “normal” life, he must go out and search for his own replacement.

That’s already three new shows on the way. And we’re not quite done!

John Diggle gets his own Arrowverse show with Justice U

Finally, Deadline reports that David Ramsey — who played Oliver Queen’s longtime ally John Diggle on Arrow — is in talks to star in his own show: Justice U. In the show, Diggle will recruit five young meta-humans who then live incognito at a prestigious university. “There, he will oversee their education and train them to become the heroes of tomorrow,” reads the synopsis.

Diggle has long been a beloved character in the Arrowverse, and Ramsey has directed episodes of ArrowLegends of TomorrowSupergirlBatwoman and Superman & Lois. He’ll direct the pilot for the new show as well.

We don’t know when any of these shows are coming out, but we know there are a lot of them.
