When it rains it pours…trailers! Yesterday we got our first full length trailer for Marvel’s Moon Knight, and today we’ve seen a title video for Amazon’s Lord of the Rings prequel The Rings of Power, The Boys animated spinoff Diabolical, HBO’s pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death, and now, a brand new trailer for Outlander season 6!
The Droughtlander draws ever closer to its end, but things are looking pretty grim at Fraser’s Ridge — apparently when Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) teased that this season would be “intense” he wasn’t kidding. Check it out:
War is coming in the Outlander season 6 trailer
As you can see, there’s one thing on most everyone’s mind this season on Outlander: the impending Revolutionary War. The past few seasons have seen Jamie, Claire, and the rest of their family stake out a home for themselves in North Carolina…but the land that home is built on was given to Jamie by the British Crown. This has given our heroic Scotsman, who’s loyal to a fault, a bit of a dilemma, and in season 6 things will reach a breaking point. According to Heughan, this season will see the Fraser’s Ridge community “disintegrate.”
But it’s not just the Revolution adding fuel to that fire. The trailer also gives us some more glimpses of the Christie family, who will move onto the Ridge and bringing a bunch of tension along with them. Thomas Christie, the family patriarch, was with Jamie at Ardsmuir Prison back in season 3, and apparently he was a difficult guy. “When I sent out word to ‘all Ardsmuir men,’ I couldn’t very well say ‘all of them but one,’ Jamie tells Claire in another of the teasers we’ve gotten for this season, when she asks if the Ridge is really the best place for the Christies.
And then there’s the brutal assault Claire suffered at the end of season 5. The brother of the man responsible for her assault, Richard Brown (Chris Larkin), appears to be holding a grudge over the death of his family member. Larkin played a pretty great unhinged villain in season 4 of Black Sails, and based on the trailer it looks like we’re going to see him get back in touch with that energy. The guy’s not someone you want as an enemy, but then the Fraser’s have never lacked for terrifying bad guys disrupting their hopes for a peaceful life.
We get plenty of other good stuff in the trailer, like Ian (John Bell) trying to advise his uncle Jamie to support their Native American neighbors against the English, Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds) making eyes at Ian, and Roger (Richard Rankin) and Brianna (Sophie Skelton) back on the Ridge after their failed attempt to go back to their own time at the end of season 5.
Outlander season 6 begins with an extra long 90-minute premiere on March 6 on Starz.
