By WiC Staff
Yesterday, Prime Video announced the title of its upcoming Lord of the Rings series, and released a video to match. Have a watch:
Yes, the official title of the series is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, although I hope they shorten it to just “The Rings of Power” as we get closer to the release date. We get that your show is related to The Lord of the Rings, Jeff; you don’t need to say “Rings” twice.

When does The Lord of the Rings come out on Prime Video?
Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series will premiere on Prime Video on September 2 of this year. Amazon actually made this announcement in August of 2021, over a year out:
It’s unusual to have a release date that early, but Amazon has sunk a lot of resources into this show — $250 million for the rights alone, plus another $250 million for the first couple of seasons — and probably want to get their money’s worth. Hence the hype train left the station early.
And with this title video, the train is getting up to max speed. Dare we expect a teaser or trailer before too long?
Prime Video already has The Wheel of Time. With the addition of The Lord of the Rings, its setting itself up as a fantasy powerhouse. The new series is set thousands of years before The Lord of the Rings story most of know, during the Second Age of Middle-earth:
