We all loved the characters on Game of Thrones, but too often, the animals stole the show, whether it was the Stark direwolves or the massive Targaryen dragons. Drogon in particular became an icon in his own right, and one man is taking his love to the next level by ordering a 55-foot tall, 12,000 lb statue of the guy.

That guy is marketing entrepreneur Matthew Focht, who saw the work of Canadian sculptor Kevin Stone and decided to order a piece for his new home in Puerto Rico. “I was like, oh my gosh, I’ve heard about Game of Thrones, but I’ve never seen dragons this detailed,” Focht told CBC British Columbia. “I wanted something that provided a wow factor. I wanted something very artistic.”

As you can tell from the images in the article and the video below, this Drogon statue definitely has the wow factor.

Life-sized Drogon statue will breathe fire

Stone and his wife have been working on the statue for 13 months. They’re still finishing up the wings (which stretch about 88 feet end to end) and doing safety tests on the dragon’s fire-breathing system.

Oh yeah, and the sculpture breathes fire. “It’s obviously extremely challenging,” Stone said. “And it’s turned out really better than I could imagine.” There’s no word on how much this is all costing, but I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that it’s ludicrously expensive.

Stone has a lot of other projects in the works, including a Tyrannosaurus rex that will be visible from some beaches in the Canadian city of Penticton. I vote to make that breathe fire, too, just for the added drama.
