The third season of The Boys, Amazon’s gleefully irreverent superhero romp, is coming this year. The show has found an eager audience among people a little fed up with Marvel and DC’s more traditional take on the superhero story. How about one where the heroes are monsters?
But enough preamble. When is The Boys season 3 arriving, who’s in it, and what is it about?
The Boys season 3 release date
The Boys season 3 is officially coming out on June 3!
That’s earlier in the year than the show has ever debuted before. Of course, the show also skipped a year, probably because the pandemic delayed production. There was a lot of that going around in 2020 and 2021. Hopefully it’ll be smooth sailing from here on out.
The Boys season 3 cast
The Boys will feature the returns of characters like Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), Starlight (Erin Moriarty), and of course, the vile Homelander (Anthony Starr).
All the characters who survived the first two seasons will be back. The big new arrival is Supernatural veteran Jensen Ackles as Solder Boy, a kind of Captain America parody. Expect him to be upstanding in public but a complete reprobate in private, since that’s how things tend to go on this series.
The Boys season 3 plot synopsis
We don’t have an official synopsis for The Boys season 3 yet, but showrunner Eric Kripke has said that it will get into the history of Vought, the multinational corporation that manufactures superheroes. We assume that Soldier Boy will be part of that, since officially he was Vought’s first superhero.
When last we left off, Homelander’s Nazi girlfriend Stormfront had been neutralized (although not completely killed) and the Boys had gotten some measure of leverage over Homelander himself, with the help of Queen Maeve. That means that Homelander is pacified…for now, but you know that can’t last. And the first teaser trailer we’ve gotten suggests that he’s even closer to cracking than usual…
The Boys season 3 trailer
Amazon has released a brief teaser for the show:
I don’t what’s worse: Homelander smiling rigidly or Homelander getting upset at the last second there. Everything that guy does is horrifying.
See you in June!
