The wheel never stops turning at Marvel. They have a lot of new series debuting on Disney+ this year, including Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk. A little further off is Secret Invasion, about a…well, a secret invasion by the shape-shifting Skrull aliens introduced into the MCU in Captain Marvel. They’re impersonating powerful people and infiltrating the highest levels of our society, and the only person who can stand against them is Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).
But of course, he won’t be alone. Cobie Smulders will feature in the series as Fury’s longtime right-hand woman Maria Hill. And Game of Thrones veteran Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) will appear on the series in an as-yet-undisclosed role, although some fans think she’s playing Abigail Brand, the head of S.W.O.R.D.
S.W.O.R.D. is the sister organization to S.H.I.E.L.D. Where the latter deals with terrestrial threats, the former deals with extraterrestrial. Given that the Skrulls are from beyond the stars, it makes sense that Brand would be involved.
Is Emilia Clarke playing Abigail Brand in Secret Invasion?
However, we’re not getting our first look at Clarke on the set of Secret Invasion, and she doesn’t look much like Brand, who in the comics cuts a memorable figure in her sunglasses, black-and-green body suit and shock of green hair. Clarke, on the other hand, looks pretty unassuming in her brunette locks and loose-fitting pea green coat.
Nick Fury also looks pretty dressed down in whatever scene they’re filming, so this doesn’t necessarily mean anything. Bottom line: I don’t think we can pinpoint who Clarke is playing just yet.
We don’t know exactly when Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney+, but it will probably be in 2023.
