Wild Doctor Who rumor: David Tennant’s will be the Fourteenth Doctor

Okay, these Doctor Who rumors are getting ridiculous and really getting my hopes up as a die-hard Whovian. And this is pretty much to be expected every time a regeneration is upon us. With Jodie Whittaker only penciled in as the Doctor for two more specials, people are talking.

I must warn you that these rumors are probably have no truth to them…but if they ever come to fruition, I will not complain. Apparently, there are whispers of David Tennant returning to play the Doctor.

Again, the chances of that actually happening seem incredibly slim, but I get why the rumor mill wants to believe it is true. After all, former showrunner Russell T. Davies is returning to the show for season 14, and he left back when Tennant did, it makes sense to think that they could both return together…right?

Will David Tennant return as the next Doctor Who?

In November 2023, Doctor Who will celebrate its 60th anniversary, mark the return of Davies and introduce the 14th Doctor. There have been so many rumors and ideas about who the next Doctor should be, and many of them are connected to Davies. A lot of stars from his Channel 4 series It’s A Sin have been in the mix, and now folks are looking at Tennant.

Here’s the thinking behind it: IF Tennant did return, it wouldn’t be as the 10th Doctor again. Instead, he would supposedly play an entirely new incarnation of the Doctor, do that for a few specials, and then make way for a new actor to play the Doctor in 2024.

This rumor is just as confusing as Doctor Who itself!

How likely is this David Tennant rumor?

I hate to be a pessimist, but I would err on the side of caution and say quite unlikely. But with that said, there are reasons to believe that this could take place. Actors have returned to Doctor Who in the past, but not really in the way this rumor is suggesting.

The most recent example is Peter Capaldi, who first showed up in a 2008 episode, “The Fires of Pompeii,” and then later became the Twelfth Doctor. But again, he wasn’t a previous Doctor who returned to play the Doctor again. If the David Tennant rumor is true it would be the very first time this has happened in the franchise.

Doctor Who has had many crazy storylines over the years where the Doctor has had influence over their regeneration. Some have tried to delay or stop it, so honestly, anything is possible. But again, I’m not getting my hopes up. It’s just too good to be true.

Sigh, it’s a long wait until November 2023, folks! So buckle up for many more months of speculation.
