The new Mortal Kombat movie that came out last year was a hit. Naturally, Warner Bros. is making ready a sequel. Test your might!

Mortal Kombat began life as a video game series way back in 1992, distinguished by its (at the time) gory take on fighting. A live-action film followed in 1995 which a lot of people still hold up as one of the only examples of a good movie based on a video game.

But over a quarter century later and things are changing. Video game movies (and TV shows) are way more common and are rapidly losing their reputation for being awful. Last year, Warner Bros. debuted a new Mortal Kombat movie starring Lewis Tan as an original character who got involved with iconic fighters from the series like Raiden, Sub-Zero and Goro. The movie was a hit both at theaters and on HBO Max, so naturally, a sequel is on the way.

According to Deadline, the new film will be written by Jeremy Slater, who is also the head writer on Disney’s Moon Knight series. Lewis Tan is pretty psyched on Twitter:

And producer Todd Garner simply put up this logo:

The biggest question has to be who will be playing Johnny Cage, who’s probably the best known Mortal Kombat character who sat out the first film.

We don’t know when Mortal Kombat 2 (or whatever they end up calling it) will come out. But Moon Knight will premiere on Disney+ on March 30.
