Superman & Lois star Tyler Hoechlin dishes on latest villain twist

If you have not watched the most recent episode of Superman & Lois, be warned that there are some major SPOILERS ahead!
Okay, now that the spoiler warning is out of the way, let’s talk about Superman & Lois’ most recent episode, “The Thing in the Mines.” For a couple of weeks, fans have been theorizing that said thing is Doomsday, the villain who famously killed Superman in the comics.
However, the latest episode revealed something else entirely…
The latest villain to join Superman & Lois
We finally got Bizarro Superman, folks! Speaking with TVLine, Tyler Hoechlin, who plays Superman, talked about how excited he was over the big reveal. “I remember the conversation I had with Todd Helbing, our amazing showrunner,” he said. “I was insanely excited about it when he told me. With TV, there’s always the fear that sometimes you’ll get locked into doing the same thing over and over to the point where you feel like it’s Groundhog’s Day. This was a really cool chance to do something different — an opportunity to play on set and really let go.”
And Hoechlin really is getting an opportunity to play around. With the introduction of Bizzaro Superman, he’s now playing four different personalities: Superman, Clark Kent, Bizzaro, and the Superman from John Henry Irons’ world.
Bizzaro Superman’s history
Bizarro was first introduced back in the Silver Age in a comic by writer Otto Binder and artist George Papp in 1958. Basically, this character is an inversion of the Superman we know. He’s twisted, backward, and his only desire is to take down Superman. Oh, and he also speaks his own language that is opposite of Superman’s.
We’ve seen different versions of Bizarro over the years, and I’m excited to see what Superman & Lois does with the character. The series has done a phenomenal job thus far of giving us a unique perspective on the Man of Steel’s life. With the introduction of Bizzaro, it’s only going to get bigger and better and weirder.
As for whether we’ll ever see Doomsday on the small screen, never say never! “When it’s a movie, it’s a lot easier to say yes it was this or no it was that as the actor,” Hoechlin said. “On these shows, I never want to say anything definitive because I don’t know. There are certain things they keep from us too. I think it is what it is at the moment, but who knows what it leads to. Only Todd and the writers have that answer.”
