Fall is the perfect time to pick up a scary story, so it’s fitting that Stephen King’s new book just landed a September release date. That’s right, the horror icon is back with a novel called Fairy Tale, which is set to hit shelves on September 6, 2022.
Entertainment Weekly published an excerpt of King’s latest, which leans into science fiction and fantasy. According to the outlet, it will follow 17-year-old Charlie Reade after he obtains the keys to an alternate reality.
Given Charlie’s own disappointing reality, his ability to jump worlds may sound promising at first. But the book’s blurb suggests this other universe may be in poor shape, too. And if nothing is done about it, the fallout could impact Charlie’s home as well:
"Legendary storyteller Stephen King goes deep into the well of his imagination in this spellbinding novel about a seventeen-year-old boy who inherits the keys to a parallel world where good and evil are at war, and the stakes could not be higher — for their world or ours."

In addition to announcing the release date for King’s new book, EW also unveiled the cover:
Fairy Tale’s cover shows a boy and his dog descending into darkness, probably capturing the moment Charlie falls into this parallel reality.
Judging by its aesthetic and synopsis, this story seems to blend horror, fantasy, and sci-fi all into one spell-binding novel. It will no doubt appeal to fans of genre fiction.
Of course, readers have a wait ahead of them before they get their hands on King’s latest. Fortunately, they can secure themselves a copy ahead of time. Fairy Tale is already available to pre-order on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
