Were you a superfan of The Vampire Diaries like I was? Well, I’ve got some exciting news for you, and no, it’s not a reunion or a reboot of the original series. Instead, the creators of The Vampire Diaries, Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, are collaborating on a new series for Peacock.

The streaming service announced this week that this new show, Dead Day, is getting a straight-to-series order. And when that happens, you know it’s going to be good. Williamson and Plec will work together as co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers. This will be the first time they’ve worked together since The Vampire Diaries, which ran from 2009 to 2017. I cannot wait to see what they’ve come up with this time.

The Vampire Diaries creators turn their attention to zombies

Dead Day is being described as an ensemble series following the characters as they “navigate the annual ‘dead day,’ when for one night the dead come back to complete unfinished business—be that to celebrate a night back on earth or to torment the living.”

Dead Day is based on a zombie comic book series from AfterShock Comics that came out in 2020. It’s about the Haskins family, which appears on the surface to be normal but in reality is knee-deep in zombie madness, according to Deadline.

Williamson and Plec are excited to get together again after more than five years. “We have been looking for a project to do together and Dead Day has all the ingredients we love as storytellers,” they said in a joint statement. “Love, death, thrills and tears—and we know Susan Rovner and her team at Peacock is the perfect fit for this project.”

This duo has been working on and off together since the very first Scream movie back in 1996.  They also worked on Dawson’s Creek together. These guys are some of the best in the business and I’m glad they’re finally back!
