Age of Ash by Daniel Abraham (The Kithamar Trilogy #1) — February 15

Long before James Holden and the crew of the Rocinante struggled to unite warring factions in the starry expanse, author Daniel Abraham had already established himself as a voice to be reckoned with in the fantasy genre. Abraham, who coauthored The Expanse with Ty Franck, had previously published the fantasy series The Long Price Quartet, as well as several urban fantasy novels under the pseudonym M.L.N. Hanover. Then, while The Expanse was in the middle of its run, he published another epic fantasy series, The Dagger and Coin.

In 2022, Abraham will be returning to fantasy with the first book of a new trilogy, Age of Ash. This novel is set in the fantastical metropolis of Kithamar, where thieves stalk alleyways, inequality runs rampant, and dark secrets lurk around every corner. The book follows Alys, a thief who discovers her brother has been murdered. Her quest for answers leads her to even darker truths that threaten to unravel the fabric of the fantasy metropolis.

The coolest thing about Kithamar is that all three books are planned to take place over the same turbulent year in the city’s history, but from different points of view. This is Alys’ book…but who knows what new angle Abraham will take in the following two volumes. In today’s highly saturated fantasy market, it’s cool to see an author attempt something this different with the structure of a series.
