Netmarble Neo is working with HBO on an open world Game of Thrones mobile game, and the trailer looks pretty stunning. Have a watch!
Give or take Telltale’s story-driven adventure games, there hasn’t really been a hit video game based on HBO’s Game of Thrones…although there have been a bunch of Game of Thrones video games. For instance, developer Netmarble Neo put out a mobile game called Iron Throne a few years back.
Now, Spiel Times reports that the company is working with HBO and Warner Bros. Interactive on another Game of Thrones mobile game. This one will be a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, or an MMORPG. It will recreate Westeros in an open environment and be set during the same time period covered by the show.
Netmarble has already released a trailer, although it’s hard to tell if these graphics reflect the finished project. It looks impressive, though. The game is powered by Unreal Engine 5, and the company promises “hyper-realistic console-quality” visuals. Take a look:
According to Netmarble Neo CEO Park Beom-jin, the new game — which as of now is simply titled Game of Thrones — will combine a rich single-player experience with a large-scale multiplayer experience. There will be dynamic weather, heavy combat, and an open world. Sounds ambitious!
There’s no release date for the new game yet — there’s very few specifics about anything — but we’ll keep an eye out.
