Supernatural ran for a stupefying 15 seasons on The CW. It ran for so long that The CW was still The WB when it premiered. The show was finally laid to rest in 2020, but there is fertile ground for a spinoff. Series lead Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) developed one with his wife: The Winchesters, a prequel that will tell the love story between John Winchester (father to Sam and Dean) and the boys’ mother.

We’ve known about this spinoff for a while, but The Hollywood Reporter now brings us the news that The CW is officially making a pilot. That could be slightly awkward for the series’ other lead Jared Padalecki, who played Sam, since he apparently knew nothing about this show and isn’t involved; Ackles, on the other hand, is executive producing and will serve as the narrator.

It doesn’t sound like there’s any bad blood between the two actors, but still: a bit weird. That said, Padalecki is doing pretty well all on his own. Per THR, The CW is also picking up a spinoff of his show Walker, which is a re-up of the old Chuck Norris joint Walker, Texas RangerWalker: Independence is also a prequel; this one revolves around Abby Walker, an ancestor of Padalecki’s character who moves to Texas in a quest to get revenge after her husband is murdered.

Batman is dead in Gotham Knights on The CW

One more pilot pickup for the road: The CW will also be making Gotham Knights, which comes from the minds of Batwoman writers Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams. In this show, Batman is murdered (yeesh, dark), and his “rebellious adopted son” (probably Damien Wayne) must team up with the children of Batman’s enemies to clear their names, since they’ve all been framed for the deed.

This is another show that we heard about a while back and is now moving forward. I can’t wait to meet the likes of Judy Cobblepot, Dylan Ivy, and the Joker’s daughter Pam.

None of these shows have release dates yet. None of them are even guaranteed to see the light of day, so one thing at a time.
