Last week, Amazon released a bevy of posters teasing its upcoming Lord of the Rings series, subtitled The Rings of Power. The posters came 23 strong, all of them depicting a pair of hands from among the show’s expansive cast, which includes Game of Thrones veterans Robert Aramayo and Joseph Mawle.

Now, per Deadline, Amazon Studios has dropped a teaser teaser (that’s a teaser for a teaser) promising that we’ll get our first proper look at The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power this Sunday during Super Bowl LVI between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. Check it out below:

This is basically nothing; it’s literally a promise that we’ll get something at a later date…and yet I’m still excited. Amazon has poured a ton of money into this production and I want to see what they have in store.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power release date

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set during the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before Frodo or Bilbo Baggins were born. A lot happens during this time, from the rise of Sauron to the fall of the human civilization of Númenor, but we don’t know what the show will focus on; hopefully we’ll have a better idea after Sunday.

The Rings of Power premieres on Amazon Prime Video on September 2, which is a while away. That’s another thing that makes this announcement interesting: usually the hype train doesn’t leave the station this early. It makes you want HBO to ramp up promotion for its big fantasy swing this year: House of the Dragon; we got a teaser trailer for that a while back and have heard little since. Bring on the battle of the fantasy shows!
