Westworld fascinated the world when it started on HBO in 2016. “Who are we?” it asked. “What does it mean to be alive? What is the line that divides human intelligence from artificial intelligence?” The first season dug into these questions while telling a gripping tale about robots taking control of the futuristic amusement park where they were made to serve.

The next two seasons were just as ambitious, if not quite as successfully executed. Still, we’ve come this far, and we’re looking forward to seeing how this tale wraps up, if indeed season 4 is the end; it’s not entirely clear yet.

When last we left our characters, Dolores had died…at least insofar as a robotic host can die. Maeve was alive, though, and was embarking with Caleb on a world now free of its artificial controls. However, Charlotte Hale (or rather, the copy of Dolores in a host body modeled after Charlotte Hale) had gone on the warpath and was manufacturing hosts for what looks like some kind of robotic takeover of Earth. She’s even made a host version of the Man in Black, and killed the real deal.

Westworld season 4 is coming in 2022

We know that Westworld season 4 is coming out this year. We glimpsed it into HBO’s year-ender video highlighting what’s to come in 2022.

That said, we don’t have an exact release date yet. HBO will have stiff competition later in the year from the likes of Amazon Prime Video, which is debuting a new Lord of the Rings series. And HBO has its fantasy tentpole in House of the Dragon to debut. It would probably behoove them to get Westworld out sooner rather than later, but you can’t rush these things.

Next. Every sci-fi and fantasy show you should watch in 2022. dark
