If you’ve been paying attention this past year, then you’ve probably heard all about NFTs, aka non-fungible tokens. In laymen’s terms, they are a digital asset — a picture, moving graphic, etc — that has a digital stamp that makes it completely unique to the person who possesses it. Companies will often make limited quantities of certain NFTs to sell off.

The concept has gained a lot of traction very quickly, so much so that companies like Marvel and celebrities like Stephen Curry have been minting their own NFTs. And now, Variety reports that AMC has teamed up with NFT studio startup Orange Comet to create a marketplace for NFTs based on The Walking Dead.

When will The Walking Dead NFTs be available?

There will be multiple opportunities to buy Walking Dead NFTs beginning Sunday, February 20 at 1:00 p.m. EST, which is also when new episodes start airing again.

The collection will include around 10,000 NFTs which will cost $50/each. Old and new characters from The Walking Dead will be featured in the initial drop. In addition to that, there will be 750 original animations priced at $250/each.

If you’re hoping to snag one of these special NFTs then you can do so through Orange Comet’s marketplace using a credit card or even cryptocurrency. And they will also be selling NFT “Walker Access Passes” which are going to be available only for 24 hours and cost $311. If you can gain one of these exclusive passes, then you will be given early access to future The Walking Dead NFT drops through the next year. But after the 24 hours is up, these passes will not be available for an entire year.

The co-founder and CEO of Orange Comet, Dave Broome, is quite excited to team up with AMC for exclusive The Walking Dead content. “The Walking Dead’s stunning imagery, incredible array of characters, and epic scope provides an inspiring and collaborative canvas for Orange Comet to continue its best-in-class, creative-first approach to the development of NFTs,” he said.

If you’re interested in buying these NFTs, you sign up at Orange Comet’s website to pre-register for the drop. In order to buy The Walking Dead NFTs, you will also have to set up an Eluvio digital media wallet.

Following the first drop, fans can continue to purchase the NFTs throughout the airing of the final season, which will lead into the launch of a virtual community based on the series. It will be a platform for fans to buy, sell, and trade their NFTs.

Eventually, there will also be NFTs of characters from the other Walking Dead shows. So if you’re hoping to see Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) or Madison (Kim Dickens) from Fear The Walking Dead, it may come to pass.
