While we do an awful lot of talking about Marvel due to their never-ending torrent of new content, 2022 also happens to be a huge year for comic book movies from their biggest rival, DC. Responsible for characters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, DC Comics has a long history of films, albeit one with a lot of ups and downs. But when DC movies are good, they can be really good. Just look at The Dark Knight, Wonder Woman, or Zack Snyder’s Justice League if you need proof.
This year, we’re getting a whopping four movies based on DC characters, which makes it the year with the most DC movies ever. Fans are understandably excited, and to help them out, DC just unveiled a new teaser showcasing all the superhero films they’ve got coming this year. Check it out:
DC previews The Batman, Black Adam, The Flash, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
Set against an operatic score, we get reminders about some much-anticipated DC projects, new glimpses at others, and our first voiceover from former Batman star Michael Keaton. It’s a lot of good stuff, so let’s run through it all.
First up is The Batman, which lands in movie theaters on March 4. There’s no new footage here, which isn’t too surprising considering how much we’ve gotten in recent days. We do get a couple of scenes of Pattinson in his batsuit, and Zoë Kravitz as Selena Kyle aka Catwoman.
Then there’s Black Adam, which stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and is due out on July 29. This trailer has the most footage we’ve seen yet of The Rock in the title role, preparing for battle amid rocky landscapes and abandoned cities. Per Variety, it also gives us a look at the Justice Society of America, which includes Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo) and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell).
Next up is The Flash, which might just steal the show. We’ve known for a while that Ezra Miller’s first solo movie as the hero is going to be a multiverse tale, and the anticipation is high. The trailer shows off The Flash’s new suit and gives us a glimpse at multiple versions of the character (presumably from other worlds) teaming up. It also features a voiceover from Michael Keaton, who will be returning to the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman for the first time since 1992’s Batman Returns. The Flash is also set to star Ben Affleck for his final outing as Batman as well.
And last but certainly not least, we get a few glimpses of Jason Momoa as Aquaman, striding across a clifftop and sitting on his watery throne. Momoa has brought his trademark physicality and huge charisma to this role in the past, and there’s no reason to expect he won’t keep it up in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The film also stars Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Nicole Kidman.
The Batman hits theaters on March 4, Black Adam on July 29, and The Flash on November 4. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated for a December 16 holiday release.
