The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim release date revealed
By Dan Selcke
When it rains Lord of the Rings, it pours Lord of the Rings. Amazon has been kicking up a lot of dust lately over its upcoming Lord of the Rings TV show The Rings of Power, including dropping a teaser trailer during the Super Bowl. Not to be outdone, New Line Cinema — the studio behind Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies — is hyping up its own project, an animated movie directed by Kenji Kamiyama. Variety has a first-look image:
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is about Helm Hammerhand, a King of Rohan for whom the fortress of Helm’s Deep is named. Philippa Boyens, who wrote Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movies and produced The Hobbit films, is involved, so New Line is kind of positioning this film as a continuation of that legacy, whereas Amazon is doing a new thing.
Per Deadline, New Line has announced a release date for the movie: you can see The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim on April 12, 2024.

That’s a long ways off, and it’s no coincidence that the announcement comes just as Amazon is building hype for The Rings of Power; one of these two projects is using the other to get attention, and I think we all know which is which.
Still, as long as The War of the Rohirrim is a good watch I won’t have anything to complain about.
